Bamboo planting launched in G-Hernandez

GARCIA-HERNANDEZ – This town that played host launched the massive bamboo planting in the 200-ha. town lot in hinterland Bayloko hills, barangay Candanas, according to Mayor Jess Baja.

The activity is in consonance with the celebration of the first World Bamboo Day with sponsors — the Provincial Government of Bohol, Bohol Limestone Corporation (BLC), Philippine Mining Service (PMSC) corporation and this town.

The undertaking started in the early morning yesterday (Saturday) participated in by the town’s residents and officials, the sponsors and visitors from afar and followed by a program held at the Freedom Park, barangay East Poblacion of this town.

Vice-Mayor Antonia Ladaga welcomed the visitors and followed by bamboo tips by Vice-Mayor Benjie Labuca of Asturias, Cebu province.

Provincial Board Member Atty. Jiselle Rae Aumentado Villamor, chairperson of the environment committee of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Engr. Paul Espina, PMSC resident manager and Engr. Winston Bolo, resident manager of the BLC were included as invited guests to the program.

Expected to give their respective inspirational messages were Gov. Aris Aumentado, Engr. Armando Malicse, Mines and Geosciences Bureau director; and Paquito Melicor, regional executive director of the DENR.

Congresswoman Alexie B. Tutor and Board Member Tita V. Baja, sister of the mayor, and the mayor’s brother Councilor Antonio Baja, natural resources chair of Sangguniang Bayan here were also expected to deliver their respective inspirational messages.
