MOVIE actor and heart-throb Piolo Pascual bared that he will participate in the sixth SunLife 5150 Bohol and Sunrise Sprint triathlon starting early today from Bellevue resort, coastal barangay Doljo, Panglao town.
Pascual, the official SunLife ambassador, is one of the resource persons during the press briefing yesterday (Saturday, July 8) held at the said resort.
Vice-Gov. Dionisio Victor A. Balite and Congresswoman Vanessa C. Aumentado, better-half of Gov. Aris Aumentado and other officers of the organizing groups and resort joined the said press conference with its partners and Bohol media personalities.
The “Silong” and “On The Job” actor was asked “why Bohol” in joining in the triathlon race.
He said that he will not only promote healthy lifestyle but also tourism. “Bohol is very nice,” he stressed.
He said he learned that Bohol has just been declared as the only Global Geopark in the country by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In joining the race today, Pascual said that this kind of race motivate him to get better and has prepared himself in biking and swimming in past months for this big event.
He encourages everybody to get involved to stay fit physically.
According to its press statement, over 600 athletes from 11 countries will participate in the race. This means that some 2,000 visitors, including their families, to stay a night or two in Panglao, not only to witness the event but to savor tourist spot here.
Meanwhile, Balite and Congresswoman Aumentado welcome the visitors as the sixth year of the Sun Life 5150 Bohol triathlon to be held here.
“The 5150 triathlon in Bohol is a premier event that brings in athletes and their families into our islands each year, supporting and providing a valuable boost to local businesses. The province is forging ahead in cementing Bohol as the race destination to host world-class events,” said Gov. Aumentado of Bohol.
Congesswoman Aumentado said, “Events like the 5150 Bohol are important not only to the triathlon community but to the local community and we are thrilled that we’re back in action once again. We look forward to sharing our stunning beaches and beautiful coastal roads, and now, being one of the UNESCO’s first geopark in the Philippines, visitors get to see the interweaving of nature and progressive quality of life in our community through sports and lifestyle events.”
There will be two race events to take place. Triathletes are expected to swim 1.5 kilometers, to bike 40 kms. and run 10 kms in Sun Life 5150 triathlon event, which is considered as part of the Sandugo celebration.
While the “Go For Gold Sunrise Sprint offers a shorter course featuring a 750-meter swim, 1 20-km bike and a 5-km run. Top elite athlete scout and Go For Gold president Jeremy Go will be in attendance as Go For Gold continues to pursue the discovery and support of talents all over the country,” the statement said.
Aside from Pascual, other celebrities are participating in the race in the likes of Paul Jake Castillo, (last year’s winner) and Satar Salem and Bea Quiambao and Erika Burgos.
The Sun Life 5150 and Go for Gold Sunrise Sprint are supported by Sun Life and Go for Gold, respectively.
