CORTES, Bohol (PIA)—Cases of theft, robbery and rape increased in the first five months of 2023 rose while physical injuries dipped 15%: the four crimes, largely considered the quick indicators of a place’s peace and order situation.
Compared to the first five months of 2022, theft soared to 102 cases this year, from the 80 cases before, marking a 27.5 % increase in cases of sneaking or taking things without the owners knowing.
Of the 102 theft cases, 84 were already solved, 15 cleared, meaning the police investigators have identified the suspect or suspects but have not filed suits in court, pending the acquisition of more incriminating evidence or witnesses.
Moreover, robbery, or the forceful taking of things, all over Bohol also rose 56% from 25 cases in 2022 to 39, and rape, which also includes incest picked up from 29 cases in 2022 to 37 cases or some 27.59%.
As to robbery, of the 39 cases in these early months, 23 have been considered solved, 13 are cleared, or that the police investigators have identified the perpetrators but have yet to file appropriate cases in court, while 3 remain to be unsolved, like theft.
Of the rape cases, of the 37 cases in police blotters this five months, 8 cases have been solved, police have identified suspects in the 28 cases and a single rape case remains unsolved.
However, physical injuries interestingly dove from 93 cases in 2022 to 79; a 15.95% dip in cases noted from January to May 15 of this year.
Of the 79 cases of physical injuries, 63 cases have been solved, 14 have been cleared and are awaiting the filing of proper cases and two remain unsolved.
Murder, which had 14 cases in the first five months of 2022, shrunk to 10 cases in the same period this year; homicide which had 7 cases in 2022 dove to 2 cases this year and motor-napping which registered 13 cases from January to May in 2022, now has only 3 cases.
Of the 10 cases of murder, 2 have been solved, 3 of the cases have already some suspects and 5 remain unsolved.
For homicide, police scored 100% crime solution efficiency, solving two of the 2 cases in police blotters in Bohol.
Motor-napping’s three cases in the first five months have tow cases already solved, one cleared.
The five months also saw one case of carnapping, when there was none in 2022.
Beyond the index crimes, unjust vexation spiked 12% from 25 to 28, acts of lasciviousness from11 to 15 or 36%, while the rest all showed downtrends.
Alarms and scandals in 2023 dipped 3% from 39 to 38, malicious mischief from 24 in 2022 to 14 or 42%, swindling from 21 to 18 or 14% decrease, resistance and disobedience to a person in authority or agents of such person from 18 to 9, light threats from 14 to 7 or 50%, adultery from 7 to 4 and direct assault from 6 to 2.
At this, Bohol Police Provincial Director Police Senior Superintendent Lorenzo Batuan assured Boholanos during the recent Provincial Peace and Order Council Meeting that peace in Bohol is still manageable. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
