THE Provincial Government of Bohol led by Governor Aris Aumentado welcomed the delegation of South Korea led by the Consul General to Cebu Song, Sewon for a courtesy call at the Governor’s Office on May 25, 2023.
Consul General Song was accompanied by Consular Officer Hong, Gobui, and the Bohol Consular Agent Park, Sungjun. They were also welcomed by Bohol Provincial Tourism Office OIC Josephine Cabarrus and Bohol Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (BEDIPO) head Maria Fe Dominise.
During the courtesy call, Aumentado touched on possible collaborations and partnerships with South Korea to boost the province’s tourism, economic activity, and labor opportunities. The Bohol Governor also mentioned sharing best practices on Geopark management as both Bohol and South Korea’s Jeju Island are part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks.
Aumentado considered the visit an opportunity for cross-cultural understanding and strengthening the economic relationship between both countries, considering South Korean tourists are the top foreign visitors in the province.
The Philippines and South Korea share strong historical ties dating back to 1949 when the Philippines became the fifth state to recognize South Korea as a sovereign state. The Philippine government also sent forces to aid South Korea during the Korean War (1950–1953). Since then, both countries have enjoyed close diplomatic ties with each other. (PiMO/GMC)
