THE City Government of Tagbilaran headed by Mayor Jane Yap, through the City Social and Development Office, celebrated the 1st National Solo Parents’ Day and Solo Parents’ week from April 15-21, 2023 with the theme: R.A. 11861: “Bagong Batas na mas Pinatibay, Kaakibat ng Solo Parents sa Tagumpay”.
The week-long celebration kicked-off last April 15, 2023 where a motorcade was held from the City Hall grounds going to Barangay Poblacion III covered court and was participated in
by solo parents from the fifteen (15) barangays of the city.
A Eucharistic Celebration then followed and was officiated by Rev. Fr. Jun Malnis.
During the program proper, CSWDO Head Lucille N. Clarin delivered her welcome address, followed by an inspirational message from City Human Resource Management and Developemt Office Head and OIC-Administrator Cathelyn Torremocha where she emphasized the Honorable Mayor’s unyielding initiative to organize a Solo Parents’ Association in the city since August 2022.
Torremocha expressed her appreciation for the resilience of solo parents and motivated them to continue their duties and responsibilities of rearing their children, who will become important components of the community in the future.
1st Federated Solo Parents’ President Jonabie Brunidor shared a message with her fellow Kasolo inspiring them to be proud of their parental status and encouraged every single parent to continually strive hard for his/her children and prove to the community that a single parent is capable of multi-tasking maternal and paternal roles.
The program officially ended after the CSWDO Solo Parent Focal Person, Angelina Costan, delivered her closing remarks.
