FORTY-SIX (46) couples exchanged “I do’s” in front of City Mayor John Geesnell “BABA” Yap, the solemnizing officer in the annual FREE civil mass wedding conducted yearly by the City Government. 2-22-22 now holds a significant meaning for the couples as they were officially tied by no less than Mayor Yap in the Saulog Gymnasium.
Mayor Yap assisted by Local Civil Registry Office Head Jubelyn Pulgarinas spearheaded the event.
“May this union strengthen your love towards one another. Husbands, I challenge you to be a responsible provider to your families and nurture your wives into the person she is supposed to be. Lastly, be a role model to your children,” said Mayor Yap to the newly-weds.
Each couple was provided with a rice cooker, wine, 2-layered wedding cake, bouquet, corsage, and hair and make-up. The bridal gown, veil, barong, and slacks were also provided.
Principal sponsors First Lady Jane Yap and City Councilor Atty. Adam Relson Jala gave 50 kg. 1 sack of rice. After which, a wedding snacks (good for 10) was given to the couple’s guests. Only fully vaccinated couple were given slots. All couples were required to wear a face mask and observe physical distancing during the ceremony.
This initiative is pursuant to Proclamation 682 which declares the month of February of every year as Civil Registration Month. The LCR in each local government unit which is under the auspices of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is mandated by Republic Act 10625 to carry out, to enforce, and to administer civil registration functions in the country.
The celebration of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Month enhances public awareness on the importance of civil registry documents. Civil Registry is the mandatory recording of permanent records of vital events in the life of a person such as birth, marriage, and death. (Jeanette Busano)
