A Humble Beginning of Once a Dream is Now a Reality

“FROM humble beginnings come great things”. Compelled with utmost commitment and dedication to serving its constituents and eagerness. The Barangay Council headed by Barangay Captain Maila Zapanta together with all the Barangay Councils and its members of the community was committed to opening a secondary school with the determination to make it a second home to learners in the neighborhood comes now a reality.

Establishing a new secondary high school, undoubtedly was an enormous task but with so much appreciation to our heirs Sir Zosimo Bernales and Lucila Bernales named Mr. Romeo Bernales, a philanthropist and bona fide resident of Tipolo, Ubay who donated the school site where the proposed school should be established. A person who is eager, keen, and determined can achieve anything. Marched also with a few brave and service-oriented staff in working all the necessary documents and conducting vigorous conferences and consultations of some bigwigs’ who are the potential figure to the fulfillment manned by the Public Schools District Supervisor Marifel R. Bernales with the full support of our LGU Ubay Officials spearheaded by Hon. Mayor Constantino H. Reyes.  The collaborative efforts of administration and staff handed by Dr. Joey G. Bitua made the School positioned to where it is intended for.

Tipolo National High School officially opened its doors last August 22, it’s a remarkable date because it was the day when the opening of the face-to-face class started.

Make a difference….a success story of Tipolo National High School on its Humble beginning…

Section 1 of Article XIV of the 1987 Philippine Constitution mandates that “ the States shall protect and promote the right of all citizens to quality education at all levels and shall take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all.” Section 2 of the same article also mandates to establish and maintain a system of free public education in high school level.

It is on this provision that the people of Tipolo, Ubay, Bohol, and its neighboring barangays dreamed to have a National High School in the area to make secondary education accessible, free, and inclusive to all particularly to their children who graduated in Tipolo Elementary School. Based on the School Report Card (SRC) forty percent (40%) of our graduates came from the remote areas of the barangay such as Cabaasan and Palayang Bayan which is 4-5 kilometers away from the school. This situation encouraged and challenged the Barangay Officials to initiate the idea of opening a secondary school. As observed, most of our graduates pursue their secondary education at nearby high schools such as Union National High School which is 8-9 kilometers away from their residence. Few of them are studying in some private schools in Poblacion, Ubay which is about 7-8 kilometers away from home.

These students who came from the remote areas of Tipolo go to school by just merely walking. Since only motorcycles are available in the area some parents were forced to hire motor services in the pakyaw system which they pay higher as compared to the ordinary fare and it is done on monthly basis just to send their children to school. This situation affects their budget.

Some students failed to enroll in the nearby high schools because of poverty and distance and they were forced to look for a relative in other places who could help and support their secondary education. The presence of child abuse, drug addiction, and poverty are also some of the reasons why parents wish to have a public high school so that they can easily monitor their sons and daughters on their daily activities in school. Several students turned out tardiness, cutting classes, truancy and the worst is dropping from their classes due to a lack of follow-up from the parents or guardians.

The creation of Tipolo National High School in Tipolo, Ubay, Bohol is geared towards the attainment of the following objectives:

  1. Provide general secondary education accessible to those who are educationally advantaged.
  2. Reach out and retrieve the out-of-school youth within and from the neighboring barangays through the completion of senior high school.
  3. Produce graduates who are technically skilled in their chosen field of study.

Master the basic skills stipulated in Secondary Learning Competencies designed for secondary students.

As reflected in the Barangay Survey of school-age children Tipolo’s population is increasing yearly because of transfers from other provinces and some enrollees from the adjacent barangays. The previous enrolment of the Grade 6 Classes is 115 pupils comprising three sections plus the enrollees from the other neighboring barangays would be enough to operate two to four classes with an enrollment of more or less 200 Grade 7 students.

Tipolo National High School Faculty and Staff and its Stakeholders believed that “Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.” Currently, TNHS is trying its best to implement DepEd’s programs, activities, and projects for the betterment of our schools and the students as well. Just recently Tipolo National High School bagged the following awards and recognition during the recently concluded Ubay 2 Christmas Party, Honoring of Retirees and Pasidungog Award 2022

as Outstanding Gulayan sa Paaralan Implementer- First Place, Outstanding Brigada Eskwela Implementer First Place Small Category, and First Place Best Learning Resources Booth during the LR Festival. Teachers and the School Head were also awarded during that awarding ceremony in grateful recognition and appreciation for their exemplary performance manifested in high standards of workmanship and lasting contribution that have made a significant impact on the caused of quality delivery of the K-12 Basic Education Curriculum.
