Aris: Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, shining example for youth

GOV. Aris Aumentado highlighted the theme CPG:Iwag sa Kabatan-onan, Paglaum sa Katilingban in his speech during the commemorative program in celebration of the 126th birth anniversary of President Carlos Polestico Garcia.

Aumentado recalled his own inaugural address to pay tribute to Bohol’s most illustrious son, who he says along with his late father and former Governor Erico Aumentado whose public service life birthed his own passion and commitment.

“Abante Bohol, Boholano First”, Aumentado’s flagship call, he said is inspired by the former president’s widely known Filipino First Policy.

With many lasting legacies of CPG who is a brilliant student, a BAR topnotcher, patriot, poet, orator, teacher, political economist, chess enthusiast, lover of culture and the arts, Aumentado said CPG remains a shining example for the Boholano youth.

Aumentado led the flag raising and wreath laying ceremonies along with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Gov. Dionisio Victor Balite, heads of offices, national agencies and civil society organizations at the CPG Park before the program that was held at the Capitol lobby.

Republic Act Number 7448, an act declaring November 4 a special no-working holiday in Bohol, designating November four to six as Carlos P. Garcia week in said province, is the legal basis of celebrating the birthdate of the 4th president of the country. The said law was approved on April 27, 1992.

The governor said in his speech that Pres. Garcia assumed office of the president when then President Ramon Magsaysay died on a plane crash in Mt. Manungal in Cebu.

Garcia tried his luck in 1961 presidential elections but failed for he was defeated by then President Diosdado Macapagal, father of ex-President Gloria-Macapagal-Arroyo. (PIMO/rvo/LM)
