THERE is still some P5,000 cash assistance and P9,600 worth of emergency shelter kits for Odette-victims of Bohol’s seven towns, all from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
It may have been nearly a year since typhoon Odette stripped Bohol houses of their roofs, time is no matter for the PRC who was able to consolidate help from the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), American Red Cross, German Red Cross, Spanish Red Cross, the European Union and the Red Crescent Societies to give out the assistance to families who would have restored their storm-wrecked dwellings by now, but have not been able to.
PRC, which brought in Chairman Richard Gordon, and American Red Cross Head of delegation Shir Shah Ayobi handed out some of the P5,000 multi-purpose cash assistance to affected residents of Getafe and the emergency shelter kits to Dauis residents.
Handing out their PRC assistance cards to tellers, beneficiaries who were spaced out inside the gym to claim their assistance said they have been pre-registered.
Anytime soon, the same help would be coming to families in Ubay, Talibon, President Carlos P. Garcia, Trinidad, San Miguel, Danao and Getafe the assistance they still need.
During the recent giving out of multipurpose cash assistance and emergency shelter kits held in Dauis Municipal Gym, Bohol mayors Ian Gil Mendez of San Miguel, Roberto Cajes of Trinidad, Vice Mayor Bonghanoy and councilor Violeta Reyes as well as town representatives were eagerly awaiting for their share of the windfall.
In Bohol, a total of 358 families would be getting P5K cash assistance and still another 1,120 families would be getting corrugated and plain galvanized iron sheets, and equipment to help them out to rebuild their houses, according to Chairman Gordon.
“Over-all amount for Bohol from the RCP, which include the cash and kits assistance reached P13 million, which also is part of the P455 million humanitarian development assistance which the PRC has allocated for the families affected by the typhoon Odette and other calamities affecting Visayas and Mindanao, from December 2021 to September 2022,” Red Cross said.
While the government is also poised to continue bringing in social assistance to communities affected by the calamities, PRC does not use government funds for their activities.
“You have to thank the Red Cross volunteers, without them, you would not have these,” Chairman Gordon told the crowd all clad in red and gathered inside the Dauis municipal Gymnasium, September 6.
It may be recalled that the PRC also come last January to distribute the same assistance to Ubay, Talibon and Loboc. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
