LADY Mayor Onjie Grace Bernales-Lim, 39, the youngest mayor of Mabini has ever produced, highlighted the importance of social services and infrastructure during the 118th foundation day of the town.

The foundation day celebration carries the theme, “Overcoming Challenges, Building Resilience Towards Progress.” The guest of honor is no less than the new provincial administrator and former Assistant Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Aster Caberte.

The event is considered by many residents as the first of its kind since it is also the first that the town’s administration under Mayor Lim gave out certificate of recognition to all deserving barangay officials in their toil in public service.

Incumbent Kagawad Teresita Nale, 70, of barangay Lungsodaan, told this paper that this is indeed the first time the barangay officials were given recognition that the past administration ignored.

Mayor Lim stressed that “knowing the problem is part of the solution,” as she embarked on her first 100 days, after which she’ll deliver her State of the Town Address (SOTA).

She said that her administration has started to give cash gift to all senior citizens in the town.

She also announced that Congresswoman Kristine Alexie Besas Tutor has poured and facilitated the funding for the renovation of two public markets (in San Roque and Poblacion).

She bared that the personnel of the Department Public Works and Highways engineering district have already inspected the two public markets. She said this is very important to increase the income of these markets where the people sell their produce.

She called on her constituents to work together and not “waiver” for she cannot do it alone.

She also thanked Tutor for the latter’s never-ending backing for her administration.

Congresswoman Tutor gave her inspirational message of encouragement for all the townsfolk to rally Mayor Lim’s administration.

Tutor hastened to say, “Together we can reach greater heights of development as long as we are united in our goals & direction, all for the betterment of all Mabinians.”

“For the 1st time, Mabini produced a Lady Mayor partnered with a Lady Vice Mayor. Under the leadership of these women, Mayor Onj Grace Lim and Vice Mayor Myra Tutor Fostanes Colis with the support of the SB, a good and positive change of genuine public service will be felt by the people. And with that, I have great faith!”

Caberte emphasized three elements of public service that must be carried out. These are integrity, competence and professionalism.

Senior Board member Tita V. Baja of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan relayed the message of hope and inspiration from Gov. Aris Aumentado, who was not around during the celebration.

Among those who were present at the town’s gym are former town mayor Stephen Rances, Vice-Mayor Myra Fostanes Colis, the members of the Sangguniang Bayan, the barangay officials and the townsfolk. (rvo)
