FEW days from now, Tagbilaran City will celebrate its 56th Charter Day come July 1, 2022. City Mayor John Geesnell “BABA” Yap enjoined all Tagbilaranons to look back and be grateful for what the city has become.
“Let us all look back at what had happened in the last nine (9) years. Amidst the Great Bohol Earthquake, Super Typhoon Yolanda, the very much challenging COVID-19 pandemic, and Super Typhoon Odette, Tagbilaran City was able to stand its ground. AsensoPaMore has been more than just a hashtag, it has become a declaration of our strong resolve to succeed and be progressive. And we were victorious. We have overcome some of the most challenging calamities in the past and we will continually stand tall and brave the coming future with hope and faith,” Mayor Yap said.
The trust and support of the Tagbilaranons have been instrumental in the success of Tagbilaran City. The people’s confidence in the leadership made its governance responsive and resilient.
To date, the road concreted in the City from 2013 up to the present totaled to more than 35, 000 meters, built 15 multi-purpose covered courts, established the Government Center in Brgy. Dampas, erected modern street lights, built drainage, subsidized almost Php100 million worth of hospital bills under the BABA card program, funded more than 6,000 scholars, gave away cakes to the Senior Citizens, provided allowances to teachers, fire personnel, and policemen, distributed free vitamins and medicines, granted burial assistance, shelled out financial assistance to various sports activities, handed out cash gift and birthday cakes to Persons with Disabilities, and so much more.
Health services have also been at its finest, with the birthing clinic, free rabies, TB DOTS, free immunization, and free check-up and laboratory.
During calamities, the City Government has always been two steps forward as evidenced by its pro-active response in the Great Bohol Earthquake, Super Typhoon Yolanda, Typhoon Odette, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Yap also acknowledged the guidance of the Almighty and remains optimistic.
“We should all look forward to the end of this pandemic and positively push forward to a wonderful and vibrant future,” Mayor Yap underscored.
NEW FLOORING TO TCSHS
Meanwhile, City Mayor John Geesnell “BABA” Yap led the ceremonial turn-over of the Special Education Fund (SEF) projects — new flooring and powerhouse to the Tagbilaran City Science High School. Both structures were funded by the Special Education Fund (SEF).
Mayor Yap said that the walkway is expected to be completed under Mayor Jane Yap’s term. To date, two SEF funded projects are still in the pipeline, the perimeter fence in Manga Elementary School and the repair of the Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School (DCPNHS) Gymnasium.
The SEF of the City Government has always been to put work. The deployment of security guards to all the public schools, procurement of toner, rehabilitation of the library, repair of roofing and trusses of the Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School, deployment of teacher aides, and the procurement of equipment for the senior high school were just few of its major priorities.
In fact, the SEF proved to be indispensable during the peak of the pandemic. The SEF assisted the needs of the City DepEd through the provision of printing gadgets for the blended learning. The gadgets were stationed in the Learning Resource Management System at the Tagbilaran City Central School to hasten the production of modules, while heavy-duty photocopiers were provided to all the City’s public schools.
For calendar year 2020, the City DepEd produced and reproduced thousands of self-learning modules for K-10 and senior high school. The SEF under the term of Mayor Yap increased exponentially, from Php25 million in 2013 to Php78 million in 2020.
“The prompt payment of taxes by the Tagbilaranons made this initiative possible. Tagbilaran City’s Special Education Fund has been exponentially increasing since 2013 resulting to improved services in education. The SEF has been instrumental in providing additional classrooms to all the City’s public schools, security guards, laboratories, multi-purpose covered courts, uniforms, and equipment. We can really feel our taxes working to improve the lives of our constituents,” Mayor Yap said. (Jeanette Busano)
