BOHOL continues to strengthen food security and environmental resilience through improved agricultural productivity and sustained conservation efforts under Gov. Aris Aumentado’s leadership.
During the State of the Province Address (SOPA) 2026 at the Bohol Cultural Center on October 9, Gov. Aumentado reported key accomplishments in climate-smart agriculture and fisheries, alongside initiatives to protect the province’s natural resources and coastal ecosystems.
RICE SELF-SUFFICIENCY
Bohol achieved a 94.9 percent rice self-sufficiency rate in 2025, leading Central Visayas with 235,000 metric tons of rice produced during the year.
The provincial government supported 23,000 rice farmers across 45 local government units through the provision of seeds and fertilizers.
Its implementation of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund programs also earned Bohol recognition as the Most Outstanding Province in the Visayas.
To improve market access and farmers’ earnings, the Capitol purchased 376,000 kilograms of palay through its Palay Buy-Back Program.
Meanwhile, the Bugas Bol-anon initiative generated ₱16 million in sales through KADIWA outlets, the Bohol Showcase Center, the Provincial Capitol, and municipal agricultural fairs.
Aligned with the provincial government’s Strategic Governance Roadmap, these initiatives reinforce the province’s efforts to secure a stable local food supply while improving farmers’ livelihoods and strengthening agricultural resilience.
MARINE CONSERVATION
Bohol likewise strengthened marine resource protection through the management of marine protected areas (MPAs), the mobilization of 860 fish wardens, and ₱4.5 million in support for Coastal Law Enforcement Council clusters.
The province’s Giant Clam Hatchery is raising more than 16,000 juvenile giant clams for restocking, with 11 MPAs already seeded.
Monitoring results showed a 12.8 percent increase in fish density and an 18.92 percent increase in species diversity in MPAs where giant clams were introduced.
These conservation efforts complement the province’s drive to increase fisheries production, protect marine biodiversity, and sustain coastal livelihoods across the Bohol Island Geopark.
“Mao kini ang atong tumong: usa ka Bohol nga malamboon, lig-on nga magpanalipod sa atong kinaiyahan— sa atong mga suba, kadagatan, ug kalasangan— aron adunay limpyo nga tubig, daghan nga pagkaon, ug panginabuhian sa tanang Bol-anon, karon ug sa umaabot,” Aumentado said. (PIMO/JFP)
