‘Libreng Kasalan’ brings joy to 93 couples married in heartwarming ceremony

KASALAN.  Love is indeed in the air as brides, grooms, sponsors, and guests gather outside the stunning St. Joseph Cathedral, waiting for the big moment – ! the “Libreng Kasalan sa Tagbilaran” mass wedding, supported by the city government and led by Jane Yap, John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II, and Adam Jala. This is an event uniting dozens of couples in a beautiful celebration of love and commitment.

THE City Government of Tagbilaran once again affirmed its commitment to family welfare as 93 couples were formally united in marriage through the city’s annual “Libreng Kasalan sa Tagbilaran”.

The celebration was held over two days, beginning yesterday with a church wedding ceremony at the St. Joseph Cathedral, where 59 couples exchanged vows in a solemn rite witnessed by their families and guests.

The event will conclude today with a civil wedding ceremony at the City Hall Atrium, where an additional 34 couples will be legally married.

The “Libreng Kasalan” program, now an annual city tradition, was institutionalized during the term of then Mayor and now Congressman John Geesnell “Baba” Yap.

It aims to help couples formalize their unions while easing the financial burden associated with wedding expenses.

As part of the initiative, the City Government provided each couple with a complete wedding package at no cost.

The package included bridal gowns with veils, barongs and slacks for grooms, wedding rings, professional hair and makeup services, bridal bouquets and corsages, wedding decorations, photo and video coverage, sound system support, and meals for family members and witnesses.

Mayor Jane Yap congratulated the newlyweds and reiterated the city’s commitment to sustaining the program.

“The Libreng Kasalan” reflects our dedication to strengthening families in Tagbilaran. We will continue supporting couples as they begin married life with a strong and secure foundation,” Mayor Yap said.

Couples also received additional tokens such as rice cookers, wedding cakes, and wine, further underscoring the city’s support beyond the ceremony itself.

Mayor Yap was joined by Congressman John Geesnell “Baba” Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Jala, who served as wedding sponsors, symbolizing the city government’s collective support for the couples.

The continued success of the Libreng Kasalan sa Tagbilaran underscores the city government’s long-standing commitment to strengthening families as the basic unit of society.
