TAGBILARAN CITY – An estimated Php69.9 million value of alleged shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) weighing 10.2 kilos was seized in a buy-bust operation in barangay Dampas in this capital city on January 6, 2026.
It is said that this may be the biggest illegal drug haul in the annals of anti-narcotics drive here, so far.
Camp Dagohoy spokesman PMajor Rey Olar, who serves as police information officer, confirmed this in a media briefing on Wednesday of last week.
The anti-illegal drugs drive was carried out by Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of Camp Dagohoy-based Bohol Provincial Police Office by a poseur buying P200,000 worth ‘shabu’ from the suspects in a SUV where some nine big packs of the illegal drugs were found and confiscated.
Police advised not to name the identities of the suspects — a male and a female in observance of the privacy law.
The police is preparing formal charges against the suspects for illegal drugs peddling in violation of Section 5 and Section 11, Article II, Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Police said that the increasing volume of illegal drugs being seized in previous years remains prevalent.
In 2025, (as of September) a total of P185,441,603.20 worth of 27,270 kilos of ‘shabu’ was confiscated, bigger than P140,090,066.40 of 20,895 kilos of shabu in 2024.
If the seized P21.6 million value of shabu in December last year is added to P185,441,603.20, (as of Sept 2024) it would total to P218,041,603.20 or more considering that other seized illegal drugs were not included yet in all of 2025.
The number of anti-narcotics operations conducted increased to 626 in 2025, higher than 520 in 2024; number of persons arrested, 661 in 2025, higher than 555 in 2024.
“The consistent rise in number of operations and arrests demonstrates that BPPO is actively strengthening its anti-illegal drugs efforts,” BPPO said. (Ric Obedencio)
