A BOHOLANO descendant whose kin hails from Garcia-Hernandez town captured the world powerlifting crown in Seoul, South Korea recently.

Ms. Mae Angeli Saguil, whose roots may be traced to prominent Ranario clan in the limestone-rich town, bested other contestants after clinching first place in Women Raw Open 60 on December 12, 2025.

She is seconded by Pham Thi Thao Ly and Yvonne Dai, at third place.

Ms Saguil was born in the US to Filipino parents from Bohol and Baguio after migrating to the land of milk and honey over 30 years back.

With this win, she now holds the new world record in bench, breaking the 14-year-old record.

Previously, Saguil was the title holder as champ of the US power lifting in 2023, 2024 and 2025 in 60-kilogram world class. (Ric Obedencio)
