Balancing Studies And Other Activities

IT has been said that it is difficult to serve two masters at a time. In other words, multi-tasking is not an easy task. According to the dictionary, multi-tasking means dealing with more than one task at the same time. In multitasking, an individual is dealing with more than one activity at the same time. One example of multi-tasking is being a student and at the same time doing some other activities in school and in the community where an individual is living.

Some individuals will never serve two masters at a time. They will never engage themselves in multi-tasking. It is because, according to them, it will just give them stress which eventually will give them some ill effects on their health and well-being. According to them, multi-tasking is a tiresome thing to do. That is why, for them, engaging in plenty of activities at the same time is a big no.

However, there are some individuals also who can manage well, even though they are doing multi-tasking already. According to them, doing several things or activities at the same time is just manageable. They are enjoying the different activities that they are doing. They can manage everything and can accomplish everything that they need to accomplish. According to them, it is just a matter of time management and self-discipline. These individuals are commendable.

One example of an individual who manages to do several activities at the same time and who can accomplish everything properly is a friend of mine named Alexis Rey Inguito Legaspi. He is a resident of Poblacion, Pilar, Bohol. He finished his secondary education at Virgen del Pilar Academy in Pilar, Bohol last 2018 with flying colors. He is now a college student at Holy Name University in Tagbilaran City. He is taking up a Bachelor of Science in Criminology. He has a good scholastic record or standing and he is also a dean’s lister in their department. Aside from being a student of Holy Name University, he is also a Sangguniang Kabataan ( SK ) Kagawad of Poblacion, Pilar, Bohol. As SK Kagawad in their barangay, he is active in doing some activities that will develop the youths of their barangay holistically. He is supporting some activities that will make youths away from drug addiction or not to be drug dependent. He is also into some activities that help in the conservation and preservation of the environment as well as activities that develop the skills of the youths in sports. Together with other SK officials of their barangay are doing sports activities, tree planting, drug symposium, and others. He can do his different activities as a college student and as SK Kagawad at the same time. According to him, it is just a matter of time management and self-discipline. He is simply enjoying his time as a college student and SK Kagawad at the same time. He is not just doing all those activities for himself, but also for others. He is also after the welfare of others, especially the youths of Poblacion, Pilar, Bohol. He is indeed a youth who is worthy to be emulated by others.

According to www.czechuniversities.com (April 17, 2022), there are seven ways to balance studies and other activities or how to do multi-tasking effectively. These are scheduling wisely, prioritizing your tasks, learning how to say “no”, taking good care of yourself, socializing, asking for help when you need it, and having fun along the way. Schedule wisely means you are going to schedule everything that you are going to do. You need to create a schedule or a timetable for all the activities that you are going to do. You should schedule everything in order not to forget anything. Prioritizing your tasks means you must be prioritizing your tasks. You must do or accomplish first those that are most important or those that need to be accomplished first. In other words, you must prioritize the urgent ones than those things that are not that urgent. Another thing is you should learn how to say “no”. Learn to say “no” to things, events, and people that are not necessary and important to you at the moment. Your time and energy are precious, especially if your schedule is already packed. Next is you should also take good care of yourself. Get enough sleep, exercise, eat well, and live well. Stress is an integral part of being a student and at the same time doing other activities. Maybe, you cannot avoid stress but you can learn how to manage stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Another is you must learn to socialize. Several types of research have proved that socializing benefits both physical and mental health.  Asking for help when you need it is also acceptable. If you need help and assistance, do not hesitate to ask for help from the people around you or your support group. The last is you must have fun along the way. Studying and doing other activities in school and in the community where you are living at the same time can be challenging, annoying, and tiring. But, it is not impossible to have fun along the way. Just enjoy your journey.

For those students or individuals, like Alexis Rey Inguito Legaspi who can manage and balance studies and other activities in school and the community, congratulations and keep it up. Balance your studies and other equally important activities so that you can accomplish everything you wish to accomplish. Just simply follow those seven ways how to balance studies and other activities.
