TODAY is the fourth day of the month of May. And, this is the fifth month of the year.
To Short Cuts, May is the happiest month of the twelve months of the year, overshadowing that of December. This is Short Cuts’ honest conclusion. This is based, of course, on his observation while the whole universe observes the Christmas Day celebration every year.
This is also based on Short Cuts’ experience from his Grade School days until today.
While it is true that we celebrate the birth of our Saviour in December every year, the same celebration could be done – as it is always done – even if some members of the family are absent. In most cases, a son or a sister maybe absent during the celebration because he or she is employed somewhere in Davao, Cebu, Manila, or elsewhere.
A worse scenario could be experienced if it is the mother in the family who is absent because siya nagpamaid outside the province.
But during this month of May, everybody seems to be happy in our province. This is not only the fiesta month of the year: where almost all barangays of the municipalities in the province are celebrating the festivity; where members of a family are once again reunited after years of absence either because of employment outside the province or long years of vacation spending.
This is truly felt in Short Cuts’ hometown of Valencia. For a local government unit of thirty-five (35) barangays, only six (6) barangays do not hold fiestas in May. And, more than half of the total number of barangays celebrate their fiesta during the first week of May. So that beginning this week, Short Cuts’ long-lost friends begin to be seen in these barangays.
And, could this be considered a sort of a REUNION?
This type of family relationship is, definitely, not felt in families outside the Province of Bohol.
Truly, it is only found in this island-Province of Bohol.
This is Short Cuts’ honest observation.
