BI nabs aliens in Panglao and Cebu for overstaying

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives in separate operations in Panglao and Cebu separately the other day have nabbed foreign nationals for overstaying in the country.

Arrested was identified as one Chinese national Dong Chengzhi, 27, in Barangay Doljo, Panglao on Thursday, Feb. 20 by operatives of the BI’s Intelligence Division, in coordination with the Panglao Municipal Police, reports said.

BI also coordinated with the Mabolo Police Station in Cebu, in arresting a Japanese national, identified as one Takeshi Nishiyama, 48, in Kasambagan, Cebu City.

Dong and Nishiyama were apprehended separately on same day based on intelligence reports BI received of the presence of overstaying alien in the area. The arrested Chinese national is said to remain under the BI’s custody pending the resolution of their deportation case.

“The Bureau remains vigilant in tracking down overstaying foreign nationals and ensuring compliance with visa regulations,” said BI commissioner Joel Anthony Viado in its press statement.

“Violators will face legal consequences, and we will not tolerate any disregard for immigration laws,” he added. (rvo)
