TAGBILARAN City, once again celebrated love and family through its annual “Libreng Kasalan sa Tagbilaran,” a free mass wedding program that has become a cherished tradition in the city.
This year, 266 couples were given the opportunity to formalize their union, with 227 couples exchanging vows at the St. Joseph’s Cathedral on February 14, 2025 while 39 couples were wed at the City Hall Atrium on February 15, 2025.
The event was made even more meaningful through the city’s partnership with the Diocese of Tagbilaran, led by Bishop Abet Uy and Msgr. Efren Bongay.
The Catholic wedding was held at the historic St. Joseph’s Cathedral, while non-Catholic couples had their ceremonies at the City Hall Atrium.
The city government ensured that the couples received a complete wedding package at no cost.
The package included free bridal gowns with veils, barong tagalog with slacks, hair and makeup services, bridal bouquets, corsages, church decorations, a wedding performer, professional photo and video coverage, LED walls, sound systems, food for family members and witnesses, wine, a wedding cake, and even wedding rings.
Mayor Jane Yap, who was joined by former Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Jala as principal sponsors, highlighted the significance of the event in strengthening families and the community.
The couples also received rice cookers, tokens, and a special gift of rice from the principal sponsors.
“This tradition of Libreng Kasalan sa Tagbilaran is more than just a wedding ceremony; it is a symbol of our city’s commitment to love, unity, and family. We want every couple to have the opportunity to start married life with dignity, joy, and the full support of the community. Tagbilaran City is here to make sure that love is celebrated and cherished, regardless of circumstances,” said Mayor Yap.
The “Libreng Kasalan sa Tagbilaran” has become a beloved annual tradition, ensuring that couples from all walks of life can experience a meaningful and memorable wedding day.
With the unwavering support of the city government and the Diocese of Tagbilaran, the event continues to serve as a testament to the city’s dedication to fostering strong and happy families.
