AFTER 16 years of being classified as a third-class city, Tagbilaran City has officially advanced to the status of a second-class component city.
The Department of Finance (DOF) confirmed the reclassification under DOF Order No. 074-2024, issued on November 5, 2024.
The milestone follows the implementation of Republic Act No. 11964, also known as the Automatic Income Classification of LGUs Act, which streamlines the income reclassification of local government units (LGUs) based on their financial performance.
Tagbilaran City now falls within the income range of P1 billion to less than P1.3 billion, a significant leap from its previous classification.
The city has been categorized as a third-class city since 2008, despite its steady economic progress over the years.
This achievement is a testament to the sound financial management and visionary leadership of Mayor Jane Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Relson Jala.
Through effective governance, strategic fiscal policies, and an unwavering commitment to economic development, the city has achieved this historic milestone, marking a new chapter in its growth and progress.
Mayor Jane Yap expressed her gratitude and pride in the city’s advancement with a statement: “This is not just a win for the city government but for every Tagbilaranon who has contributed to our shared vision of progress. Being reclassified as a second-class city opens up new opportunities for investments, development, and improved services for our constituents. This achievement reflects our dedication to sound financial management and inclusive growth.”
The reclassification solidifies Tagbilaran City’s position as a rising hub for economic and social development in Bohol and Central Visayas. It also paves the way for increased national government allocations, enhanced creditworthiness, and greater opportunities for infrastructure development and public service improvements.”
As Tagbilaran City continues to strive for excellence, this milestone serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving sustainable growth. With strong leadership and an engaged community, the city is poised to reach even greater heights in the years to come.
