Tagbilaran City delegates gear up for Batang Pinoy 2024

THE City Government of Tagbilaran hosted a send-off ceremony on November 18, 2024, at the Saulog Gym for its athletes and coaches who will represent the city in the prestigious Batang Pinoy 2024 competition.

The event, headed by Mayor Jane Yap and City Sports Coordinator Zacarias Castro III, highlighted the city’s unwavering support for its young athletes competing in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, from November 23-28, 2024.

The delegation, composed of 34 athletes, 14 coaches and assistant coaches, and six support staff, received comprehensive support packages, including cash allowances ranging from ₱6,000 to ₱10,000, brand-new shoes, and complete uniform sets consisting of t-shirts, shorts, hoodies or jackets and Speedo swimsuits and trunks for the swimming team.

They also received caps, varsity bags, towels, toiletries and umbrellas.

First aid kits and medicines were also provided to ensure the team’s health and safety during the competition.

To further prepare them, a special prayer and blessing ceremony was conducted, fostering a sense of spiritual readiness and unity among the delegates.

Mayor Jane Yap expressed her pride and encouragement, emphasizing the importance of sports in shaping the youth.

“You are the pride of Tagbilaran City, and we stand firmly behind you as you represent us on this national stage. By investing in your development, we are building future leaders who are disciplined, goal-oriented, and focused on brighter futures. Good luck, and make us proud!” she said.

Batang Pinoy is an annual sports competition organized by the Philippine Sports Commission, gathering athletes from 230 Local Government Units across the Philippines, including 82 provinces and 148 cities.

This year, Tagbilaran City takes pride in sending a team of highly qualified athletes who embody the city’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment.

The support extended to the delegation reflects the city government’s dedication to strengthening sports among the youth, steering them away from drugs and vices, and guiding them toward a more promising future.
