City conducts Food and Water Sanitation Seminar for local businesses

IN A proactive move to enhance public health and safety, the City Government of Tagbilaran conducted a series of educational seminars focused on Basic Food Safety and Water Sanitation. The seminars, held on October 16, 17, and 23, 2024, at JJ’s Seafood Village, brought together registered food business establishments, ensuring they meet the necessary health standards.

Additionally, a specialized orientation for water refilling station operators took place on October 24, 2024, addressing the unique challenges faced by this sector.

Dr. Jeia Pondoc, City Health Officer, led the initiative, emphasizing the critical need for food handlers and business owners to be well-informed about sanitary practices.

The seminars were attended by a diverse group of participants, including food handlers, business establishment owners, and representatives from water refilling stations.

The city’s commitment to public health was evident as various stakeholders engaged in lively discussions and shared insights on best practices.

Key topics covered during the seminars included the sanitary requirements for food establishments, the prevention of food-borne diseases, and the principles of good manufacturing practices.

Participants also received vital information regarding the Philippines’ drinking water standards and the National Policy on Water Safety Plans, which guide water service providers in maintaining the quality and safety of their products.

Furthermore, the seminars featured a session on fire prevention conducted by the Bureau of Fire Protection, which highlighted essential safety measures for local businesses.

Solid waste management practices were also discussed, reinforcing the importance of proper waste disposal as part of maintaining sanitation and hygiene.

City Mayor Jane Yap underscored the city government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health. “Ensuring the safety of our food and drinking water is paramount. Our local businesses play a crucial role in this endeavor, and it is our collective responsibility to uphold the highest standards of health and safety,” she stated.
