EMBARKING on a journey with a modest sum of P1,181.50 and a dedicated group of 49 members, DCCCO Multipurpose Cooperative has traversed a remarkable path. As of June 30, 2024, the cooperative boasts an impressive P9.9 billion in total assets and a membership that has swelled to 189,317 as of June 30, 2024.
The achievements of DCCCO are a testament to the vision of our founders, nurtured and fortified by successive leaders. It is hard to fathom that from such humble beginnings, DCCCO has grown into an institution that has transformed the lives of thousands.
The cooperative’s inception on February 17, 1968was driven by a pressing need to liberate a group of impoverished parents from the grip of loan sharks, aiming to provide their children with a chance at a more dignified life. Today, DCCCO stands as a beacon of hope and progress, a testament to how past struggles lay the foundation for a brighter future.
Our past achievements are a source of pride, and while space constraints limit the recounting of all honors, recent accolades from the Cooperative Development Authority, National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO), CLIMBS, and the Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives (PFCCO)-Visayas Federation are a testament to our continued excellence.
- 2019 CDA National Gawad Parangal Award as the lone awardee of the Most Outstanding Primary Cooperative (large category – billionaire) in the Philippines for “exemplifying best practices in good cooperative governance, and for excellent performance in financial inclusion services, providing effective access and wide range of financial products and services to members and community” (from the Cooperative Development Authority).

Innovation is at the heart of DCCCO’s success. Aside from its exceptional accomplishments on operational, financial, and non-financial innovations as well as the various types of loans and payment platforms, the recent initiatives achieved include:
- The establishment of a DCCCO Hotel.
- The ongoing horizontal development for DCCCO Village 2 in Bgy. Bajumpandan and the DCCCO socialized housing in Batinguel, Dumaguete City,
- Construction for one new classroom and dining hall at Malusay Elementary School in Guihulngan City to transform the learning environment for the students of this school. This aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 which promotes quality education.
- Construction for a new school stage at Bais City West Elementary School.
- Construction of the Administrative Building of St. Andrew’s School and the renovation of the school canteen in Amlan, Negros Oriental. The Administrative Building houses the computer laboratory, library, clinic, faculty, principal’s office, registrar’s office, and treasurer’s office.
- Drip irrigation project in Cang-alwang National High School in Siquijor, Siquijor to maintain a productive garden to support the “Gulayaan sa Paaralan” program and sustain the school’s feeding program.
Dr. Mildredo T. Umbac, CEO of DCCCO, emphasized the importance of quality facilities in producing outstanding graduates, reflecting on the cooperative’s roots at the Dumaguete Cathedral College (DCC), now Colegio de Sta. Catalina de Alejandria (COSCA).
Our BOD Chairperson, Edilberito B. Euraoba, II, wisely noted that success can lead to complacency. He urged us to embrace challenges and use them as stepping stones to greater achievements, echoing the spirit of our founders over half a century ago.
“When we experience success, there is a tendency for us to be so comfortable with our achievements. To broaden our horizons, we need to take the painful journey to rise to greater heights and not be afraid of the challenges ahead. Achievers are not afraid of challenges, rather they relish them and use them profitably just like what our founders took more than half a century ago.”
As we look to the future, let us be guided by the words of Proverbs 29:18: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
