PCG, Bantay Dagat rescue capsized boat off Calape

THE Philippine Coast Guard sub-station with the help of Bantay Dagat team successfully rescued the half-submerged motorized boat that capsized on June 20 within the vicinity waters off Mantatao island, Calape town due to unfavorable weather condition, press statement of the PCG said.

Based on the initial investigation, the motorbanca, Five Brothers MBCA, was coming from Sibonga, Cebu enroute to Mantatao Island, Calape, Bohol, it said.

The PCG received an info from Coast Guard in Sibonga, Cebu about the capsized boat.

The rescued passengers are now safe and in good condition, PCG said.

The passengers are Federico Flores, 72; Desiderio Flores, 42; Devonne Flores, 15; Dereck Flores, Sarah Sacedon, 48, Atis Flores, 78 all residents of Mantatao, Calape, Bohol.

CDN digital quoted authorities that the group came from Sibonga after attending the interment of a relative but on their return trip to Mantatao in Calape town, Bohol, they reportedly encountered giant waves which capsized the pump boat they were in. (rvo)
