“Mounlod ug Motigbabaw BOHOL”

“SA bulan sa Mayo, ang lalawigan sa Bohol mo-unlod sa primerong tulo ka mga semana sa bulan ug dayon motigbabaw na usab sa  katapusang mga adlaw sa bulan”.

This is a proverbial saying that attributes to the population condition of the province during the month of May. It is honestly believed that there is no other month of the year – not even the month of December – that earns the same degree of growth and decrease in population, though temporary in nature, in both cases.

The population of the province increases during the first three weeks of the month and gradually decreases on the last few days of the ending week.

And because the last remaining days of the last week of May is now in our midst, are we to understand that Bohol province is now beginning to ‘’float’’?

What could be the major reason or reasons for such conditions to happen?

In the first place, brother Boholanos who had already migrated to other provinces of the country or already lived in other countries come and spend their almost yearly visits to the province in the month of May.

And secondly, fiesta celebrations are held in almost all towns and barangays of the province during the month of May.

Is the same phenomenon happening in other provinces of the country?

Short Cuts observes otherwise.

Why?

Short Cuts honestly believes that it is only in the Province of Bohol in the entire country where town and barangay fiestas are mostly celebrated.

Taken as an example to this issue is LGU Valencia. Of the thirty-five (35) barangays of the town, only two barangays do not hold barangay fiesta celebrations during the month of May.

Therefore, thirty-three (33) barangays celebrate their fiestas in May which month has only 31 days!

As a consequence, there will be two or three days in May where two, three, or four barangays hold their fiestas on the same day.

And, if you are a Valencianhon politiko and always subjected to fiesta invitations, you are to suffer (or enjoy?) two or three servings for lunch or for supper!

Is this too much? Or just enough for survival?

Either way, however, what is good is that at least our Province is now beginning to float. Many of our visitors for the fiesta celebrations are beginning to leave the province.

However, as an honest expression of a Boholano culture, Short Cuts must say: WELCOME BACK next year and enjoy for another fiesta celebration!
