. . . .  was filled with memories . . . . (Reprint)

OUR province was, after the occurrence of Covid 19, once again enjoying the thrills of a ball game last night at the BIT International College covered court.

This time the volleyball teams for men and women from the University of San Carlos of Cebu City were pitted against the Beavers Teams (Men and Women) of the BIT International College, this province. Considered as tune up games in preparation for the Regional PRISAA Meet which is scheduled to be held in this province this month, these events are considered better preparations for a higher level sportsfest.

The Cebu City teams easily won the games.

No set was won by the host team in the women division. But the host men division won one set of the three sets.

To the visiting Cebu teams, Congratulations!

It must be recalled that the BIT IC (Men and Women) Volleyball teams were champions during this year’s Provincial PRISAA Meet. As such, both teams will represent Bohol province in the regional meet.

The BIT International College basketball teams for both men and women were also the champions in the last PRISAA Provincial Meet.

Considering however that Cebu City has no basketball team for women to compete with the Bohol team in the  upcoming Regional PRISAA Meet, the BIT International College Basketball women division will represent Region 7 in the National PRISAA Meet in May, 2024.

Last Monday, April 8, was Short Cuts’ most meaningful birthday celebration. Although at already 83 years old on that day which many believe one will no longer remember one’s younger days, the  celebration was filled with memories cascading through out the years.

For who will not remember Short Cuts’ younger days in the presence of the former First Lady of the province in the person of Mare Amalia “Maly” Tirol; Atty. Urbano Lagunay, my kumpadre; Mrs. Peregrina Cabagnot – Aumentado, my kumare; and Neneng Corrales, my classmate during that celebration?

Mare Maly and the late Congressman and Governor David B. Tirol were Short Cuts’ political advisers during his younger days in the political arena.

Pare Baning Lagunay, now the husband of Carollette was my co-working student at the Registrar’s Office of the then Rafael Palma College, now University of Bohol. We were not only co-boardmates for almost two years in our Pre-Law Course days. We were almost together in visiting our college days sweeties.

In the case of my Kumadre Grennie Cabagnot-Aumentado, how can she also be forgotten? Short Cuts was the “mail carrier” when the former and late Governor and Congressman Erico B. Aumentado was still courting Mare Grennie.

And, most of all, the three: Atty. Baning Lagunay, Atty. Erico Aumentado and Short Cuts were all workng students during their college days. They were together in scrubbing the wooden floor of the old Registrar’s Office of the then Rafael Palma College.

In fact, after the three passed the Bar Examinations they were together again in the same law office –  the AUMENTADO, BALITE and LAGUNAY LAW OFFICE.

Foremost, Short Cuts will never forget the former Ms. Marietta “Neneng” Lagahit,  now widowed to former Mar Corrales. She was Short Cuts’ academic rival from Grade School until High School graduation.

She graduated Valedictorian both in our Elementary and High school days.

Short Cuts was only second to her.

To all of them, thank you for joining the occasion!
