\u201cLeaders are made, not born\u201d<\/strong> according to the late American football coach Vince Lombardi. It is worthwhile to invest in student leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last November 19-20, 2022, LGU Dagohoy allocated funds for a district seminar on reproductive health awareness, psychological support, and skills training for student leaders. There were almost 185 leader participants including some teacher-advisers from the two high schools in Dagohoy, namely: Dagohoy National High School and San Miguel Puertos High School, headed by Sir Rodrigo Bu\u00f1ao and Dr. Jaclea Crodua, respectively. To channel youth enthusiasm, it began with a Zumba and mass dance. Followed by the Kampilan Multifaith Prayer and the singing of hymns. The program was welcomed by the presidents of the Student Supreme Government, Michael Galan of Dagohoy NHS and Jeson Avergonzado of San Miguel Puertos HS. Participants were recognized by Ronald Betonio, SSG Adviser of San Miguel Puertos High School, one of the training managers. Dr. Marvin G. Bongato, training manager and SSG adviser of Dagohoy NHS, gave the rationale, which focuses on sexual education with a focus on minimizing teenage pregnancy, being a responsible leader in thoughts of suicide, and empowering student leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n

Dr. Jaclea Crodua delivered inputs on leadership, followed by an inspirational message from Dr. Juvy Ayenza, PSDS, district mother of student leadership. Farah H. Minguito, RN, LPT, a registered nurse, and a licensed teacher, provided comprehensive and interactive sexual education and reproductive health awareness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Division GAD Supervisor, Dr. Ma. Maya V. Tumalon, MDM, then discussed trends in teenage pregnancy and suicide incidence along with the value of psychological support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maria Jennifer G. Cubillo, RGC, LPT, a registered guidance counselor and licensed educator at the BISU Clarin Campus, discussed how student leaders can deal with stress and develop into peer facilitators for their peers. <\/p>\n\n\n

Team building activities and inputs to becoming a balanced student leader were facilitated and delivered by the SSG adviser of Sierra Bullones Technical Vocational High School, Miss Leslie Anne A. Garcia. Another input given by the SSG adviser of Lila National High School is all about project making, with a plus topic on hosting. Finally, Sir Alvin H. Alleluya, SSG Adviser of Francisco Adlaon High School, Carmen, gave a lecture workshop on parliamentary rules and procedures to prepare student leaders for holding meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the second day, the student leaders’ meeting and action planning guided by the parliamentary rules and procedures and the inspiration and learning from Day 1. Action plans are documented and reflected in minutes. Several projects are created in line with the DepEd Core Values: MakaDiyos, MakaTao, MakaKalikasan, and Makabansa, which reflect the impactful legacy they want to leave as student leaders. #LeavingAnImpactfulLegacy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice Mayor Roel “Wing” Lagroma graced the activity and gave an inspirational and motivational message to student leaders. He brought the full support of Mayor Germinio Relampagos, MD, Hon. Amabelle Grace Jostol, Chairperson of Education, SK Federated Chair, and all members of Sangguniang Bayan (SB).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

The organizers and participants are very thankful to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of the Municipality of Dagohoy through GAD funds in partnership with DSWD. Thanks, LGU Dagohoy, for the free shirts as advocacy materials, lunch, snacks, etc., and the full spectrum of education for the benefit of the community. You were able to encourage us and motivate us to create a lasting impression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
