Yap speaks at the 2026 Diabetes Awareness program on July 17, 2026, highlighting stronger diabetes prevention via accessible healthcare, community consultations, and the Fit for Life Program.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>AROUND 300 members of the Barangay Diabetes Clinic joined the 2026 Diabetes Awareness Week celebration organized by the City Government of Tagbilaran through the Tagbilaran City Primary Care Facility (TCPCF) on July 17, 2026 at JJ&#8217;s Seafood Village in Tagbilaran City.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was held in partnership with Diabetes Philippines\u2013Bohol Chapter and the Philippine Center for Diabetes Education Foundation, Inc.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It carried the theme &#8220;Know Diabetes Now! Fight Diabetes!&#8221; and featured lectures on carbohydrate counting, medical nutrition therapy, and the prevention and management of diabetes-related complications.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants from the city\u2019s Barangay Diabetes Clinics also received free blood sugar testing, cholesterol screening, and diabetic foot examinations with the support of healthcare partners and volunteer medical professionals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc opened the program by emphasizing the importance of strengthening community-based diabetes prevention and ensuring accessible primary healthcare services for residents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor Jane Yap underscored the city\u2019s continuing commitment to helping patients manage diabetes through sustained healthcare programs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our goal is not only to treat diabetes but to help prevent its complications through education, regular monitoring, and accessible healthcare services,&#8221; Mayor Yap said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Through our Barangay Diabetes Clinics, monthly consultations, and the free distribution of maintenance medicines such as Metformin under the Fit for Life Program, we continue to make quality healthcare more accessible to every Tagbilaranon,&#8221; she added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city government noted that diabetes patients enrolled in the Fit for Life Program regularly receive free maintenance medicines.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monthly Diabetes Clinics are also conducted in barangays to provide continuous medical consultation and monitoring.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City officials recognized the contributions of Dr. Vidal Manga, president of Diabetes Philippines\u2013Bohol Chapter, Dr. Lalaine Delos Santos, Barangay Diabetes Clinic Coordinator, as well as healthcare workers, volunteers, sponsors, and partner organizations for supporting the city\u2019s diabetes awareness and prevention
