{"id":19163,"date":"2026-07-12T07:08:06","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T07:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theboholtimes.com\/?p=19163"},"modified":"2026-07-12T07:08:55","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T07:08:55","slug":"corella-town-recorded-lowest-poverty-incidence-in-bohol-poverty-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theboholtimes.com\/?p=19163","title":{"rendered":"<i><u>Corella town recorded lowest poverty incidence in Bohol<\/u> &#8211;<\/i> <font size = \"8\">POVERTY INDEX<\/font>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA) \u2014 Corella recorded the lowest poverty incidence among all cities and municipalities in Bohol in 2023, with 9.8% of its population living below the national poverty threshold, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tagbilaran City followed Corella with 10.2%, then Baclayon, 11%; Sikatuna, 12.1%; Antequera, 14.2%; Cortes, 14.5%; Alburquerque, 15.6%; Loboc, 15.9%; and Jagna and Tubigon, tied with 16.8%, rounding out the province\u2019s 10 towns and cities with the lowest poverty incidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The figures are based on the PSA\u2019s 2018, 2021, and 2023 City and Municipal Level Poverty Estimates for Bohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the province\u2019s 26 towns and Tagbilaran City, with less than 20% of their population below the poverty line, Corella had the smallest share living under P30,981, the country\u2019s annual per capita poverty threshold for 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PSA used the Small Area Estimation (SAE) method, a World Bank tool, to compute the city and municipal poverty estimates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2023 estimate drew on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH), the 2023 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES), the January 2024 Labor Force Survey (LFS), the 2023 Updating of the List of Establishments (ULE), and 2023 nighttime-lights data compiled by the Earth Observation Group at the Colorado School of Mines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SAE classifies poverty incidence into three levels: Level 1, where 0% to 20% of a population lives below the poverty threshold; Level 2, where 20.1% to 40% falls below the threshold; and Level 3, where 40.1% to 60% falls below the threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 2023 estimate, all towns in Bohol\u2019s first district reached Level 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second district had 12 towns in Level 2 and two, Clarin and Sagbayan, in Level 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the third district, nine of 19 towns reached Level 1, while the remaining 10 had between 20% and 40% of their population below the poverty threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bohol\u2019s poverty rankings have shifted across the PSA\u2019s last three estimates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, Tagbilaran City had the province\u2019s lowest poverty incidence at 3.4%, followed by Corella at 10.1%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That year, 19 towns plus the city were classified Level 1, based on an annual per capita poverty threshold of P26,108.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By 2021, Tagbilaran City again recorded Bohol\u2019s lowest poverty incidence, followed by Baclayon and Corella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of Level 1 towns fell to 13. At the same time,&nbsp; 35 towns had more than 20% of their population below the poverty threshold, a decline linked to pandemic-era job losses, reduced production and business closures across the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 2021 estimate, 10 of the first district\u2019s 15 towns reached Level 1, while five towns had 20% or more of their residents below the poverty line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second district had no towns in Level 1 and none in Level 3, though more than 35% of residents in Bien Unido, Getafe, and President Carlos P. Garcia remained below the poverty threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the third district, three towns reached Level 1, while 16 had more than 20% of their population below the threshold.
