AS part of the continuous precautionary measures against the threat of COVID-19, the City Government of Tagbilaran provided FREE Flu Vaccine to the City Government employees, senior citizens, and kids below 5 years old. City Health Officer Dr. Jeia Pondoc along with her team from the City Health Office (CHO) administered the flu shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City Mayor John Geesnell \u201cBABA\u201d Yap said this vaccination can provide additional protection against the threatening virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlthough no medicine has been discovered yet to cure COVID-19, the methods that we all observe like social distancing, staying home, and washing of hands are proven ways in reducing our chances of catching the virus and spreading it to our loved ones and within our community. Further, the administration of the COVID-19 vaccines has greatly contributed in the decline of cases,\u201d Mayor Yap said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to studies, flu vaccination can also help improve our immune response which puts us in a better position to protect ourselves from getting infected with the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Pondoc reiterated that this is a reinforcement of the City Government\u2019s COVID-19 vaccination program. Flu vaccines are designed to prevent infections with influenza viruses; it cannot prevent you from getting a coronavirus.  She said it can also help officials\u2019 better respond to the outbreak of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe effect is indirect. If health care workers are not burdened with flu patients, it can relieve the pressure in hospitals in treating patients with COVID-19. And since the symptoms of flu and COVID are kind of similar, the detection of a COVID case would be easier,\u201d Dr. Pondoc said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
