THE Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), together with the Governance for Climate and Disaster Resilience (Gov-CDR) and partner stakeholders, concluded the second day of the Validation Workshop on the Climate Change and Disaster Risk Assessment of the Loboc River Tourism System on May 26, 2026, with the presentation of strategic interventions aimed at protecting one of Bohol\u2019s most vital tourism and environmental assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Building on the findings and risk assessments presented during the first day of the workshop, stakeholders shifted focus toward concrete implementation strategies anchored on three strategic pillars: ecological restoration, infrastructure and safety, and institutional strengthening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proposed interventions are geared toward protecting lives, tourism assets, and ecosystem services while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Loboc River, widely regarded as one of Bohol\u2019s tourism jewels and a key source of livelihood for local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Facilitators emphasized that preserving the Loboc River requires confronting increasing climate vulnerabilities brought about by flooding, environmental degradation, and changing weather patterns affecting both tourism operations and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the first strategic pillar on ecological restoration, stakeholders proposed stabilizing riverbanks through bioengineering and zoning measures, implementing upland reforestation to mitigate downstream flood risks, and strengthening the enforcement of zero-waste and water quality standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second pillar focused on infrastructure and safety interventions, including the development of critical infrastructure to protect tourism assets, flood control engineering measures, climate-resilient tourism facilities, and the design of safer and more adaptive river boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the third pillar on institutional strengthening highlighted the need to establish a centralized data bank to support science-based decision-making, revitalize governance systems, and strengthen community engagement in climate adaptation initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second-day workshop also detailed specific implementation measures addressing identified climate risks, including the conduct of flora and fauna inventory, assessment and mapping of riparian zones, restoration of degraded riverbank areas, implementation of tree-growing programs, and establishment of sewage treatment plant facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stakeholders likewise underscored the importance of establishing an inclusive flood early warning system, developing data-sharing agreements among agencies, and strengthening research collaboration through memoranda of understanding with academic institutions and partner organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants emphasized that integrating nature-based solutions with data-driven governance is essential in building a resilient Loboc River tourism system capable of adapting to future climate challenges while sustaining economic growth and environmental protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two-day workshop reaffirmed the commitment of the Provincial Government of Bohol, under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, and its partners to proactively invest in climate resilience measures that protect communities, preserve natural ecosystems, and sustain tourism-driven livelihoods across the Bohol Island Geopark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The activity also supports the Capitol\u2019s Strategic Change Agenda on Environmental Protection and Resilience, highlighting the province\u2019s continuing efforts to advance sustainable tourism, ecosystem protection, and climate-adaptive development initiatives.
