TAGBILARAN City secured \u20b116 million in national government assistance and formalized a new agreement for classroom construction during the Local Government Unit (LGU) Day held at Malaca\u00f1ang Palace on February 23, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Jane Yap represented Tagbilaran at the gathering attended by city and municipal mayors, governors, and national officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event opened with a prayer led by the mayor, who, along with other local leaders, called for wisdom and integrity in public service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the key developments was the allocation of \u20b116,000,000 under the 2026 Local Government Support Fund\u2013Financial Assistance (LGSF-FA) for Tagbilaran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funding falls under the Bagong Pilipinas Rice Program, a national initiative aimed at strengthening local government capacity in implementing priority programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate engagement, Mayor Yap also signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo \u201cSonny\u201d Angara that allows funds for classroom construction to be directly downloaded to local government units (LGUs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the agreement, LGUs will oversee the implementation and monitoring of classroom projects at the local level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said the setup is intended to speed up construction, improve fund utilization, and ensure that projects are built according to actual community needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The direct-download mechanism is also expected to strengthen transparency and accountability, as local governments will be responsible for supervising and reporting on project implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Yap expressed appreciation for what she described as the National Government\u2019s continued trust in LGUs, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in delivering services closer to communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also thanked the League of Cities of the Philippines President Mayor Francis Zamora for a successful LGU Day, which highlighted strengthened coordination between local governments and national agencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
