THE suspension of school classes appeared to be chaotic as municipal mayors in Bohol are confused, whether or not, to suspend classes in all levels of public and private schools when calamity struck their respective turf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This came after a tremor shook the city and Bohol at 1:06 AM (Monday, October 13, 2025). This triggered the classes suspension, while some did not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Council chaired by Gov. Aris Aumentado addressed this predicament by formulating the solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The council agreed that classes suspension may be carried out when intensity 5 of the tremor is established but still this depends on the rapid damage assessment, the governor said as it is confirmed by Anthony Damalerio, PDRRMC officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s no suspension of classes when it is only found Intensity 1-4. When it is intensity 6, it is automatic class suspension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intensity measures the shaking’s effect at a specific location while Magnitude measures the energy released at the earthquake’s source. Magnitude is a single value for an earthquake, determined by seismographs, while intensity varies depending on factors like distance from the epicenter, with higher intensity near the center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buenavista Mayor Atty. Dave D. Duallo called the attention of Department of Education, National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), PAgASA and Phivolcs to make clarification on the guidelines and policies on classes suspension for bad weather, earthquake and other forms of disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMayors are already confused on the parameters in the suspension of classes due to calamity or impending calamity. Do they need a specific instruction or advise from their respective MDRRMO or they can decide on their own or even decide against the advise of the MDRRMO? More often, mayors suspend classes because other municipalities are also suspending classes and the public are pressuring them to suspend,\u201d he said in his post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buenavista and the city are among the local government units who declared classes suspension today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said that a magnitude 5.8\u20136.0 earthquake struck 11 kilometers southwest of Bogo City, Cebu at a depth of 5 kilometers. It confirmed that this event was an aftershock of the September 30, 2025 magnitude 6.9 earthquake off the coast of Northern Cebu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said that Intensity 5 (Strong Shaking) hit Bogo, Tabuelan, Tabogon, San Remigio, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Cebu; Intensity 4: Bantayan, Catmon, Sogod, Tuburan, Cebu; Iloilo City; Roxas City, Capiz; and Intensity 3: Tagbilaran City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The municipality of Loay and Alburquerque did not suspend classes. Loay Mayor Atty. Lahar Boyet Ayuban explained, \u201cHuman sa coordination sa atong school district supervisor, padayon ra ang klase sa atong lungsod.
