ON May 9, millions of voters flocked to polling precincts to participate in this year\u2019s elections. Although voter turnout was high (80.38% as of Monday night), the elections were marred with allegations of voter disenfranchisement and electoral fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the frequent reported breakdowns of VCMs, which caused long lines and prompted some voters to leave their ballots with their precinct\u2019s Electoral Board for batch feeding, the transmission of election returns to the national server on Monday night was very fast, though several precincts were still serving voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As our council, with VP Leni Robredo, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, and their team, await the results of these investigations, we welcome the news of the launching of an Angat Buhay non-government organization (NGO) on July 1, after VP Robredo\u2019s term ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Angat Buhay program started as an anti-poverty initiative of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) under VP Robredo. It has partnered with 372 organizations and mobilized a total of Php 520 million worth of resources for 321,001 families and 305,223 individuals in 223 communities nationwide as of December 2021. The Angat Buhay NGO would be tapping the established provincial RPCs to make it the widest volunteer network in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
