TUBIGON, Bohol \u2013 The Bohol I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BOHECO I) marked a significant milestone in its continuing journey toward infrastructure modernization and energy resilience with the formal unveiling of the new 15MVA Tubigon Substation in Barangay Cabulijan, Tubigon on June 11, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategically relocated and upgraded from its original 5MVA facility in Barangay Macaas\u2014BOHECO I\u2019s first-ever substation\u2014this new powerhouse now boasts three times the original capacity. It is a testament to BOHECO I\u2019s long-standing commitment to innovation, foresight, and service excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis substation isn\u2019t just a facility. It\u2019s a product of collective investment, cooperative vision, and the unwavering support of our member-consumer-owners (MCOs),\u201d said BOHECO I General Manager Engr. Dino Nicolas T. Roxas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are proud to say it is built by the people, for the people.\u201d Engineering for the Future Designed to accommodate two future substations and featuring the largest control room in BOHECO I\u2019s distribution system, the new Tubigon Substation integrates cutting-edge power equipment. Its underground cable trench system enables maintenance personnel to work upright, significantly improving efficiency and safety compared to older setups where crew had to crouch in tight spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FOR AND OWNED BY THE PEOPLE<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The construction of the 15MVA Tubigon Substation was funded through MCOs\u2019 Reinvestment Fund for Sustainable Capital Expenditures (RFSC) contributions, a charge in the monthly electric bills of consumers, regulated by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BOHECO I currently operates 10 substations with a total combined capacity of 120MVA, all seamlessly integrated into an advanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. These substations\u2014along with every electric post, power line, transformer, kWh meter and every upgrade one sees\u2014are assets fully owned by the very MCOs they serve, making BOHECO I a true community-centered cooperative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHAT\u2019S NEXT FOR BOHECO I?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, BOHECO I eyes even further growth. Over the next three to four years, the cooperative plans to establish four new substations in Calape, Dimiao, Dauis, and Corella, with a projected combined capacity of 55MVA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, it aims to double the capacity of its existing 15MVA Bolod Substation in Panglao, reinforcing its Looping System to ensure continuity of service especially during unforeseen outages.
