ATTY. Jordan Pizarras, who is running for representative of Bohol\u2019s First District, is calling for the construction of power plants in the province to secure a reliable and independent power supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor many years, politicians in Bohol have been in office, yet we still don\u2019t have our own power plant. We rely on other provinces, and when their power supply fails, we are left in the dark,\u201d Pizarras said in a recent Facebook post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that Bohol\u2019s dependence on outside power sources leads to frequent brownouts and an unstable electricity supply. This affects businesses, households, and especially the tourism industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBohol is a tourist destination, but why is it so dark at night? We need to take control of our own energy supply,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bohol\u2019s demand for electricity has grown, especially as tourism recovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2024, the province\u2019s power consumption reached 130 megawatts, compared to the usual 90 megawatts. This increase highlights the urgent need for a stable and sufficient power supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To improve energy reliability, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is building the Cebu-Bohol 230 kV Interconnection Project, which was set to be completed by December 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will connect Bohol directly to Cebu\u2019s power supply, in addition to the existing Leyte-Bohol submarine cable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Pizarras believes this is not enough. \u201cWe cannot just depend on interconnection projects. Bohol needs its own power plants,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
