MY friend told me, in response to a query if PRRD has already endorsed a presidential candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was referring to the endorsement by the PDP-Laban (Cusi Wing) to presidentiable BBM. He said that among those who signed the endorsement of support to BBM was SBG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When SBG signs documents, that means he has the imprimatur of PRRD. So the situation is this, he explained, when the PDP-Laban of Cusi endorsed BBM, that is already equivalent to PRRD\u2019s endorsement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So that\u2019s what he meant by \u201cread between the lines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* * *<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That should have settled the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the problem is this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When he was asked, PRRD categorically answered he was not endorsing any presidentiable. The last time he said this was during his foray in Lapulapu City last Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that event, PRRD said he was not bent on endorsing any presidential candidate for the 2022 elections and that he remains \u201cneutral\u201d and has no plan to campaign for any presidential candidate. That stand of PRRD has not changed, up to presstime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So is there a need to \u201cread between the lines?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* * *<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actually, this was the meat of the discussion among government officials during my recent visit to the capitol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The common question was \u2013 who are we supporting as president?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the immediate answer was \u2013 kinsa may gi-endorse ni PRRD?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That triggered a lengthy discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* * *<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somebody wanted to propose the idea that BBM clearly has the endorsement because he was endorsed by the political party of PRRD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the immediate retort was, we are not talking about endorsements by political parties, we are interested as to who PRRD is endorsing. Meaning, his personal choice for president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that was answered by the issue that SBG was among those who signed and so the \u201cread between the lines\u201d yoyo was foisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again, this was quickly retorted by, we are not interested in who SBG is endorsing, we are waiting for PRRD\u2019s personal choice. He has not yet made a choice and he has repeatedly said he is neutral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is correct, the immediate answer, PRRD actually said that, many times in fact. But if you reckon his style since, you will understand that PRRD is fond of double-talk. He says one thing but means another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take note, and he was empathic this time, PRRD said he was not keen on running as president way back in 2015. He even strangled Lito Banayo because of his \u201cirresponsible\u201d statement that PRRD was in fact running. But in the end, during the final days of the substitution period, PRRD filed his COC for president by substitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this was retorted right away. That is true, that is PRRD\u2019s double-talk. So even if we reckon his double-talk, what do we have here?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If PRRD says he is not endorsing, then that would really mean, that he is in fact endorsing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assuming that he does, the question returns \u2013 who is he endorsing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the answer is – nobody, so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No wonder, there is a long line of candidates who are eager-beavers in getting his support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, if PRRD is not endorsing because he wants to remain neutral, what is the ramification?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patas ang labanan,<\/em> nobody gets the advantages, as mentioned above. So the presidential candidates battle on their own terms, on their own resources and their own wit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kadtong pobre nga mga kandidato, luoy intawon ang kampanya. Makita nimo sa mga tarpaulin pa lang, hugaw og di klaro ang ilang mga nawong. Ang mga kwartahan nga mga kandidato, magbalhin-balhin lang og rally unya paibog dayon sa naglawod-lawod nga mga katawhan nga miapil sa rally. Labi na gyod kon kuyogan sa pagpanghatag og daghan nga mga T-shirts nga susama og color. Unya mabasa dayon nimo kada adlaw ang ilang mga plano kon mapili na kay duna man silay daghan nga mga PR consultants nga mobayad aron mamantala ang ilang mga press releases.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nganong wala man si Gob didto sa PDP-Laban rally sa Cebu, this was one of the questions last Thursday night.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the best answer was \u2013 kay wala man imbitaha.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kon moadto siya bisan wala imbitaha, di siya makasulod o kon makasulod man gani, di siya kalingkod sa atubangan. Sayang lang ang pag-anha kon di siya makita nga tapad o ka-storya ni PRRD.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
